Zürich Pride 2026: 40,000 march despite festival cancellation – Swiss Pride Summer continues

by Queer Switzerland editorialPublished June 25, 20263 min read

On 20 June 2026, Zürich Pride proved that the political message is stronger than the programme, even without a festival: around 40,000 people marched through the city centre to demonstrate for LGBTIQ+ rights. The demonstration was a powerful statement — all the more so because the festival grounds did not open this year.

Several well-known Swiss faces joined the march: TV presenter Karin Bearpark was among the demonstrators, as were influencer and model Steven Epprecht and entertainer Reto Hanselmann. Epprecht encouraged his community on social media: «I am so proud of every single person who took to the streets today. That is solidarity in its purest form.» Singer-songwriter Sivilian (Sivianes Okonkwo) was also present as a queer Swiss voice.

The Zürich Pride 2026 theme centred on visibility and resistance — in a European context where LGBTIQ+ rights are increasingly under pressure. Demonstrators called for full legal recognition of rainbow families and better healthcare access for Trans* people, among other demands.

Zürich was the opener — and many more highlights are to come:

- **CSD Winti – Winterthur** | 11 July 2026 - **Bern Pride** | 25 July 2026 - **Pride Zentralschweiz** | 22 August 2026 - **Khur Pride – Chur** | 29 August 2026 - **Pride Aargau** | 5 September 2026

If you live in Switzerland or are visiting this summer, there are plenty of opportunities to show solidarity, experience community and make a political statement.
